Greener Pastures for the Future

Every time you walk into a bookstore, into a grocery store, into your hair salon, they are all boasting about their new eco friendly products. You cannot walk more than 10 feet lately without bumping into something "green." And thank goodness! Have you seen the movie "Wall-E" yet? You should check it out. It makes you think twice about all the trash we put on this earth. Sure you never thought your handbag could possibly end up in a land field one day or the process to make your one handbag could be so daunting on the environment but think again. Companies are not just making your one of a kind bag or your one of a kind hair product, they are making millions for consumers to put to good use. You are one piece of the puzzle. Make sure the piece you contribute brings greener pastures for the future.

Empower yourself with your passions

I have not posted in quite some time now. My SO came home from the military about 4 weeks ago and I have been spending every waking moment with him. Being in the military, you are stripped down to nothing but your bare necessities and you live with that because everyone is in the same position as you are. What would happen to us if we were all stripped down to our bare necessities? What type of people would it make us? In the movie "I Am Legend" with Will Smith, he is all alone and has access to anything he could possibly want as there is no one there to keep him from taking anything. Maybe if we were in that type of situation, we would take the things that we only truly loved and not spend so much time on the things we fancy only a little. In the past year I am learning to stop wanting things just for the sake of wanting them. I have tried to reprogram myself to only go after the things that I truly love and am passionate about and I am finally beginning to succeed. I do not need 20 dresses if I will only wear my 5 favorite ones and I do not need to eat dinner out every night if I love my SO's cooking better than any restaurant. You feel empowered when you make a conscious choice to do only the things you truly want to do.

Sunless tanning tips

Along the way I have found a few things that work well for me.

Exfoliate! If you have ever had a salon exfoliation, you will remember how soft and silky your skin felt afterwards. You want to achieve that at home. I recommend exfoliating twice with a gentle exfoliator the first time you use sunless tanner.

Lotion up your hands with regular lotion...your hands will not absorb as much of the self tanner so you can wash your hands without all the heavy duty scrubbing. Sometimes I mix lotion with my self tanner to help it spread more evenly. It is especially helpful if you are new to self tanning as the color will not come out as dark until you are better at spreading the self tanner evenly.

Feet!! Feet are hard to do. I cover my feet in lotion before I apply self tanner to the rest of my body. When the rest of my body is done, I apply a tiny bit of self tanner all over my feet. People always say only tan the tops of your feet because the sides do not get sun naturally but if you are not careful to blend it well into the sides, you will end up with a beautiful tan on top then completely white on the sides! In my opinion, this is more tell tell than covering the whole foot.

Hands..in the past, I have always had white hands because I wash my hands after the whole apply tanner process. Now, I wash my hands then put a tiny bit of self tanner on a cotton ball and blend into my hand. A makeup sponge will also work. Go light around the knuckles and fingers...

Good luck with your sunless tanner!

Don't Judge a Book by its Cover

Have you ever judged something by the way it looks? I am sure you have!

I am, by nature, a sparkling white girl with absolutely zero color to my skin except the millions of freckles my mother has always told me are angle kisses. Naturally, I want what I cannot have. Some people strive for the perfect hair color from the box, I for the perfect brown tan. I gave up tanning bed tanning a couple years ago because its bad for your skin and honestly, after I achieved a tan people could compliment me on (after 2 or 3 mths!) I would take a break, resulting in a tan that disappears faster than the burnt tanning smell from my nostrils! Since then I have tried an array of different products, Mystic Tan being one of my favorites but who really wants to drive all the way to the salon, take off all your clothes at a strange place, then drive all the way back with the smell reeking in your car. Now I am back at square one. Looking, searching, hoping for the beautiful color I yearn for. I tried Glow Fusion but wow, does it get messy when you have to spray it all over your body but I did achieve a light golden brown color. Everything else had a scary packaging. Lancome Flash Bronzer for example, I knew I had tried it before but looking at the bright orangy bottle put thoughts of oompa loompas in my head, bright orange people running around. So oranges, I stay far far away. Unfortunately for my wallet and my skin, I shouldn't have judged and just really thought back to the beautiful tan I had when I wore it. I love Lancome Flash Bronzer. It gives me a nice brown tan.

Based on the size, shape and colors of things we make predetermined judgments that are hard to break free from but we may be missing out on exactly what we are looking for whether it be the perfect tan, the perfect home or the perfect man.

Louisiana

As a Louisiana company, I wanted to bring some Louisiana flair to Kataphileo so you will notice the photos are changing. If you have ever been to southern Louisiana and even northern Louisiana where Kataphileo is located you will have noticed the old antique red brick and tons of azalea plants. As you walk through the streets of New Orleans, you will notice all the old homes with black wrought iron fences and large grand shutters. Louisiana has so much history. As a kid, I grew up walking the streets of New Orleans, going to Mardi Gras, visiting plantation homes and eating the most wonderful food you have ever tasted... No one can beat true Louisiana food! I have photos when I was about 3 years old in a stroller at a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade with nearly 100 beads around my little neck. Its amazing how far New Orleans has come since Hurricane Katrina. Not perfect but its residents are rallying to bring back the city that is hard to forget. If you ever get a chance, go to New Orleans, not just at Mardi Gras because I guarantee you will still get that Mardi Gras feeling any time of the year, people will still throw beads at you and Bourbon Street will always have the faint smell of Hand Grenades (no one knows the exact mixture for this alcoholic drink) and Pat O'Brian's Hurricanes but go at a time when you can take a horse drawn carriage through the French Quarter. You will learn why broken bottles line the tops of homes (to keep burglars out when they try to climb over) and you will get to experience the city when it is filled with New Orleans jazz on every street corner. Stop by and have some coffee and beignets at Cafe Du Monde and go by the French Market to see the locals and pick up some great food. Louisiana is a state all its own with very little in common with other states. Don't believe me, check out what other state in the U.S. has parishes instead of counties. It brings its own culture and history that you will not find in any other place of the world. It is unique in its people and its attitude. Now if only we could get this hot, sticky weather under control, it would be perfect!

Showing your True Colors

I learned something new today and as my significant other would say "grew a little older." Squids change colors to show "get away" or "I love you." A male squid pursues a female squid with the color red while a male squid will tun a white color if another male squid gets too close for comfort and adds black spots when he's ready to rumble with the male violating his personal space. The squid is so in tune with his feelings for the female, he can transform half of his body into a red color and the other half the white color to ward off other males from approaching and even has the common sense to switch it quickly if the female moves to his other side so the female is none the wiser the whole time about the "get away" signals. This information is courtesy of ABC news. Why can't men send such clear cut signals to women?? It is a constant guessing game. At least we aren't still in elementary school though when the boys would pick on us and pull our hair to show they "liked" us. They may not have evolved much but there is always hope for the future!

Linea Pelle Perfection!

I went to Dallas this past weekend to view upcoming handbags. All I can say is stunning. The upcoming Linea Pelle bags, set to debut around mid June or July, are the most irresistible bags ever. If you have never been a Linea Pelle fan, your tune will soon be changing as these bags will rival even your most expensive bags in design and craftsmanship. I do believe Linea Pelle bags keep getting better and better as the years go by. What started out as a fantastic belt line, Linea Pelle over the past couple years is blossoming into a designer line known for much more than their eye for designing scrumptious leather belts and into an ever evolving sophisticated handbag line with style and uniqueness. Get ready for their zebra print lining to stick around as it becomes their signature lining and the softest most desirable leather ever will continue to be a trademark of a perfect Linea Pelle bag.

Saving the planet one innovation at a time!

It is truly incredible how far the world has come or if you are a pessimist, the thinking may be why didn't we get here sooner. The world is going green. Everyone is becoming eco-friendly as we see our world is in greater need of some serious immediate changes. We want a world in the future that will be able to provide for our families as it has provided for us, don't we? We are now experiencing a surge in all things green lately and with a little bit of imagination, skill and knowledge, great minds are working hard to equip us with the tools to make saving our planet a more manageable task. We have hybrid cars, organic foods, eco-friendly totes and Sony is even working on a TV that uses only 45 watts of energy! Talk about a a true innovation! That is less than the lowest light bulb wattage in my home! Sugar will be the main ingredient of batteries in the future, MP3 player casings will be made from corn-based plastics and we will one day soon all use solar energy in our homes. As time goes on, being "green" will go down in price and will not only save our planet but our wallets, too! Going green is going to make the world we live in a better place and hopefully you will jump on this "trend" and make it a lifestyle.

Connecting Factor of Handbags

Handbags are a connecting factor in the majority of women's life. They give us something to talk about, something to appreciate, something to be proud of and carry with confidence. You will find women from all walks of life who carry some sort of bag whether it be their trusty backpack, an ultra feminine day clutch, or a jumbo sized carry all, from an 8 year old to a 96 year old.
Handbags tell a story about various times in our lives. Remember the "Hello Kitty" purses you would carry as a child or the long strapped handbags we carried in the 90s. Thinking back we must've all looked so cool or maybe back then it was "hip" in our ultra big bangs still lingering from the 80s with our purses hanging down at arms length. My bags, until recently, could carry a small child and 8 of its favorite toys and still have room for my things. Lately, I am going for a more streamlined look that hopefully screams, "hey, I have my life together and running smoothly so I don't NEED all that mess" so I compartmentalize in a high powered day clutch. Needless to say, this is not what is really going on, I don't think anyone really has their life running so smooth they only need their lip gloss and a few essentials but hey, its a very nice look if I must say so myself! My grandmother used to carry a clutch as her handbag...for so long I've always thought it was because it was so lightweight but secretly, I think she was just on the cusp of a great new trend way ahead of her time. Think about what your handbag says about you. Does it speak to others how you are a wonderful mother to two kids with mid day snacks, crayons and blank paper overflowing? Maybe it shows a different side others do not get to see quite so often, your wild side! It is so much easier to express yourself in a handbag as it does all the speaking for you when it is too hard to open your mouth. In high school I was super shy and quiet to everyone who knew me at school but when I was out with my friends I couldn't stop my mouth from running. If I had been so fashionable then possibly I would've carried a handbag that spoke my true personality.

Kataphileo

www.Kataphileo.com was created because I wanted to find a product you can be proud to own and carry and one you are passionate about. The name Kataphileo represents how I want to live my life. Kissing for example, why would you want to not kiss with passion, not strive for the ultimate, something that gives you tingles up and down your spine. Go after what you want in life and if you put everything you have into it you will never fail even if you never achieve the initial goal.

$500,000 Handbag

A friend and I were talking today. Discussing what would happen if we created a $500,000 handbag and placed it on the Kataphileo website. What would happen? What kind of interest and buzz would it create? Would people think we are crazy or would it be a genius idea and people flock to the site to see the $500,000 handbag and wonder what it was made of? Silly idea but it got me thinking. Victoria Secret does it all the time. How many of you look forward to the Victoria's Secret Fantasy Christmas catalogue every year just to see what kind of outrageous bra and gifts they come up with? Ever heard the statement "the next best thing since sliced bread"? Did you also know the machine to slice bread was invented in 1912 but bakers and consumers alike wouldn't have it. It wasn't actually until 1930 when Wonder Bread started packaging sliced bread with its brightly colored packaging screaming out how convenient and nutritious pre-sliced bread is did the bread begin to fly off shelves. Funny how something so easy and convenient didn't seem appealing to anyone until the way the message was delivered to the consumer was changed. White Castle throws a romantic candlelit dinner for two with reservations required on Valentine's Day. Completely nutty and if my significant other ever took me near White Castle for Valentine's, he would be in the dog house for a week! That's not the point though, is it? The point is, no matter how crazy or outrageous, I have still mentioned White Castle to you. And now, in turn, you may go out and tell your friends all about how White Castle does this ridiculous Valentine's Day thing. You will talk about how funny it is and wonder if anyone actually goes and suddenly, you are passing the word on too!
Funny how extravagant and outrageous things grab our attention even if just long enough to pass the information on to a friend and suddenly a phenomenon is created and an explosion of interest occurs focused on whatever the subject may be. If a person or company does something out of the ordinary good or bad, it is in our nature to spread the word. (crosses her fingers) I just hope Kataphileo always provides people with the good kind of gossip! So what would you do with a $500,000 bag?

Waking Up

Have you ever gotten out of bed in the morning to find nothing to wear, your hair's a rat nest of a mess and you just can't get it together? Everything about the day is a let down... Up until now that is, when you spot the pinnacle of luxury, the essence of beauty, the one bright shining star to make your day suddenly seem brighter. This is how I feel most mornings. I may not have the best fashion sense when it comes to the right way to pull clothes together or the brush moves to make my eyeliner perfect but when I reach for my bag, I walk out my door and stand proud to be carrying something made of quality materials with quality design. An item people put their heart and souls into so I would one day carry and display their work of art. I want everyone who stops by Kataphileo to see what I see, a beautiful well crafted bag that is well deserving of any arm that holds it.
